Action Date, August 16th 1917 – Steenbeek.
In the attack on the enemy on August 16th 1917, near Langemarck whilst in full view of the enemy and under heavy shell fire, he kept his Lewis Gun in action although all but two of his gun team had become casualties. After the enemy's lines had been taken, he succeeded in gaining an advanced post, kept his gun playing on the enemy's strong points and enabled his platoon to consolidate with exceptionally few casualties.
