Military Medal
London Gazette, May 14th 1919 – Ledeghem.
Authority, Daily Orders, 1st Battalion, 28/10/18.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On October 3rd 1918, when the Battalion was holding the West edge of Ledeghem , the enemy put down a heavy barrage and swept the village with machine gun fire prior to counterattacking. This N.C.O. as his field of fire was limited and small, at once worked forward with his Lewis gun moving from cover to cover. On arriving at about 150 yards in front of our line, from there opened fire with great effect on the enemy, who were moving across the front in small groups. He inflicted casualties on them and helped to prevent the enemy from massing on our front. His action was worthy of great praise.
