On the afternoon of April 13th when his company was advancing over the open, this N.C.O. showed great bravery and coolness in controlling and leading his platoon. On reaching his objective he kept moving up and down his platoon under heavy machine gun and rifle fire, encouraging and directing the rifle fire of his men, and by his personal gallantry set an excellent example.
